New doll coming to life...

A new doll is taking form. I love the colors and the contrast between her white, white, skin and hair and the vibrant colors of her clothing. I'm mixing hot pink tie dyed silk, with orange cotton and vintage velvet flowers. I just can't wait until she's done and has a story. Maybe she is a french fairy. oui?

Success.

Well I've reached another goal. It was my goal to be in a Gallery Showing this and it is the end of January and it has already happened. How cool is that?

As promised, I took some photos at the show but silly me, I did not take any of real people. It was very crowded in there and to get these photos was challenging in and of itself.

So enjoy the picts. and I'm sorry that I did not have the time or the presence of mind to capture the artists for recognition.

Today is the big day...

Tonight I go to the Grand Opening of the Performing Arts Center. It's a wine and cheese gathering. The artists meet the folks that are members, run the events, and are future purchasers of their works. So I need to clean up. Wear my Sunday best and maybe I'll even dye my hair. I ordered business cards but they have a typo on them so I'm making new ones today. I'll just run them off on card stock and cut them myself. I am not organized. But let me tell you this is the most organized I have been ever. I'll post photos tomorrow.

Don't forget to come over to the doll network and sign up. There is going to be a free playshop on February 1st.

Until tomorrow.

Spirit Doll

Looking to the heavens and holding flowers of hope. Sad or full of fear?
Who knows? What does the future hold? Who knows?
Fabric and polymer clay. I used vintage scraps and gauze to create this spirit doll.

Here is the doll I've been working on for a few days now.
Her name is Little Lucinda. She is little girl lost.
All she wants is to go home again.

Lucinda is 8 inches tall and made of paper clay. She has a styrofoam, and wire armature. Red Mohair and decorated with vintage fabric pieces and old lace.

The Gallery Show is on the way...

Today we delivered the art for the gallery at the Performing Arts Center. There will a grand opeing and showing on the 29th and I will take pictures for all to see. The building itself is wonderful.

Now I'm back to working on the classes. I've also made some cute Valentine Dolls out of air dry clay to sell on Ebay or Etsy. Can't decide. They should be done soon.

Don't forget to check out the One World One Heart gypsy caravan to the left. Just click the logo and it will take you there. Leave a message on my blog and enter the drawing for my Sisters Print seen below.

Okay then...back to work!

I Have A Dream...

Dreams do come true.
Not in our time frame sometimes.
Thank you Martin Luther King for your dream.
We have come a long way. I am excited to see the change.
It's like when the Berlin Wall came down.
We are closer to peace.
God Bless Obama.
God Bless the USA.

Working on more gallery items

This is fairy baby. ( reworked) I redid her hair with long
locks, added wings and placed her in a beaded flower.

Here's a book that I need to finish.
It has an original painting on the cover.
I will be adding more papers and fabrics to the inside along with words.
Then I'll finish it off with tons of fibers on the spine.
It is covered in beeswax.

Well, wouldn't you know it, just when I get into the swing of things in one part of my art life along comes another venue. I need to be finished with my gallery exhibit for the Performing Arts Center and have it delivered by Monday. WOW! That time went fast. I have a bunch of things started but as usual I always need to do finishing touches. So, I'll set aside the dolls for a day a so and then get back to them after the exhibit is delivered. My things will be on display for 2 months. I've never had them gone so long before. There will be a grand opening that I will attend and then after that, they just sit there. I'm a little worried they will be broken or maybe disappear. Oh well, what good is art if you're the only one who sees it?

Art doll playshops on line...

I think this will be the design for the on line class.
It won't be long and I'll post how you can join.
Check back often!

We're having a heat wave...5 degrees

Here are some art journals and books along with a decorated bottle that are going into my art display for the opening of our Performing Arts Center. I also have 5 dolls and that huge collage I did earlier this week. The journal and book are covered in beeswax. Yummy!

Lots to do today...

I've been working on creating my Ning social network for my on line doll class and a place for doll enthusiasts. If any of your are on the 29 Challenge that started in November 2008, you may remember that that was when I committed to doing the on line class. Instead I wrote a booklet on doll making. That's like me. So I continue to keep my commitments this year. Wish me luck! This has not been easy for me but I am finally finding my way around Ning. I started designing the pages but can't really figure out how to make it a private, invitation only group. It's not that I want to be exclusive but I guess because I'm trying to do an on line paid for workshop that's part of it. I can't seem to get that yet. I'll continue to work on this today and get back to you.

I've also been tagged by 2 of my favorite friends. I'll do that later today also. Right now it's off to take the kids to school. It's 40 below wind chill here and much too cold to wait outside for the bus.

Be right back...

I'm back for a moment. It's still cold. The kids are back from school and I did figure out some of the Ning stuff. Yea! I made my badges, found the pay pal button download, and actually found out how to make it a private group. Yea! Yea! Yea!

So here's the scoop...
I am doing an on line workshop from the booklet I wrote. I will be making several videos and there will be open discussion and questions and answers. This is not a difficult doll to make but I have a lot of other ideas for the other kinds of dolls that I also make. The class will cost and much like the Suzi Blu virtual art academy, I will just add to the workshops as I finish them.

I will post a badge to the site for those of you who want an invitation to the class. I'm not sure of the price yet.

My next hurdle is the video. That is scary. So something new once again today.

I am letting og of the past that has kept me bound to mediocre. Some time I will let it all out and tell of you the exact nature of the broken pieces of my life. I am a survivor and I will continue to survive.

Once again the time is slipping away...

Here's something new. I tried a huge painting, well collage, today. It is probably 3' by 4'. It consists of paint, texture, fabric, jewels and ribbons and rags. I think I like it. Not sure yet.

I've had a rough couple of weeks here so I took some time and just did what I wanted. I may have gone too far on this imagine that.

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year to You!

Here's wishing everyone a prosperous and creative new year.

We will probably be downsizing this year. That's if we can find a large enough smaller home. That means cleaning my studio, garage, and under garage. Where I store everything I was ever going to use to make something out of. What a curse that mentality is. Get rid of stuff and use the stuff that I have. As some of you know, I have been a gift designer for over 10 years and with that comes samples. I have samples of everything that was ever produced in the past 10 years. I have figurines, dolls, cards, etc. These are all the samples of things I have designed for companies, made for boutiques, and bought at the market to have in my used to be brick and mortar store, Nancye by Design. It will take me all year to do this! I hope not because our plans are to downsize and save on these huge cost of living bills that come with a big house.

So here's to you and your New Years resolutions and here's to me and mine. Gook Luck!
